Stags Storm Past Seton Hall 3-1

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. -  Senior Kelly Oliver (San Diego, Calif./La Jolla) recorded her second-consecutive 20+ kill match and was one of four Stags to post double-doubles as the Fairfield volleyball team pushed past Seton Hall 3-1 (30-20, 29-31, 30-24, 30-24) this evening at the Seton Hall Tournament. With the win, Fairfield improves to 3-8 while Seton Hall falls to 6-4.

Oliver, who was named to the All-Tournament Teamm, tallied 20 kills and 15 digs along with three total blocks for her eighth double-double of the year. Earlier in the day, Oliver notched 22 kills against Penn.

Senior Jazmin Pa'akaula (Hilo, Hawaii, St. Joseph), who notched her 1,000 career kill against Penn, narrowly missed a triple-double, finishing the night with 15 kills, 10 digs and nine assists.

Senior Lindsey Lee (Hilo, Hawaii, St. Joseph) recorded her second-straight double-double with 17 kills and 19 digs. With her dig total, Lee surpassed Corrine Carlson for third all-time on Fairfield's career list.

Sophomore Barbie Thistle (Bakersfield, Calif./Bakersfield), who was also named to the All-Tournament Team, notched a double-double with 56 assists and 14 digs. Classmate Katie Mann (Del Mar, Calif./Torrey Pines) added 12 kills and seven totaly blocks for the Stags.

Fairfield cruised in game one, outscoring Seton Hall 20-10 down the stretch to open the match on a high note. The Stags trailed in the second game before coming back to tie the match 21-21 on a block by Mann and Lee. The two teams continued to battle tying several times. Down 29-28, Fairfield held off game point on a block by Thistle and Mann but the Pirates were able to come back for the win.

The Stags led most of game three until the Pirates tied the game, 21-21, on a Fairfield attack error. The Stags regrouped and closed out the game on a 9-3 run for the victory. In the final game, a kill by Lee made the score 2-1 in the early going and the Stags would not relinquish the lead the rest of the way.

Fairfield out-blocked Seton Hall, 12-4.5 while hitting .278 as a team.

For the Pirates, Allie Matters, Tricia Meyers and Sarah Osmun each registered 15 kills. Matters added 14 digs while Osmun had 16 digs.

Fairfield resumes play on September 12 when the Stags open Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play at Saint Peter's. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
