FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Sophomore Katie Mann (Del Mar, Calif./Torrey Pines) posted 18 kills behind a nearly flawless attack to help power the Fairfield University volleyball team to a 3-0 (30-18, 30-17, 30-25) victory against Loyola College this afternoon. It was the fifth-straight win for the Stags who improve to 9-9 overall and 6-1 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC).

Mann hit a career best .720 on the day with zero errors in 25 chances. She also added five total blocks and three digs to round out her stellar performance.

Senior Kelly Oliver (San Diego, Calif./La Jolla) was also in double figures with 16 kills on .481 hitting along with eight digs. Senior Lindsey Lee (Hilo, Hawaii/St. Joseph) added 17 digs and six kills.

The Stags hit a collective .453 on the day and out-blocked the Greyhounds (11-8, 3-2 MAAC) by a 5-3 margin.

Loyola won the first point of game one but quickly found itself down 21-11 after a kill by sophomore Barbie Thistle (Bakersfield, Calif./Bakersfield). The Greyhounds could not close the gap and fell 30-18. The Stags notched a .410 attack percentage in the first game while Loyola hit just .050.

Fairfield led from the start in the second frame, bursting out to a 23-11 lead on a kill by junior Karlie Urbaniak (Canton, Minn./Mabel-Canton). Fairfield, which hit .447, never looked back, taking the 30-17 win. Loyola hit just .100.

The third frame was the closest game with five ties and three lead changes. Fairfield trailed at the start of game three, but Thistle put the Stags on top to stay 6-5 with a kill. The Greyhounds made a run late pulling within 28-25 after a Fairfield attack error but Fairfield was able to hold off the attack.

Thistle finished the day with 48 assists and nine kills along with four digs. Freshman Kayla Hughes (Portland, Ore./Jesuit) checked into game three to record five kills.

For Loyola, Nina Camaioni recorded a team best 11 kills while Anastasia Collins had 10 kills.

Fairfield is back in action on Oct. 6 as Saint Peter's College visits Alumni Hall.
