#2 Fairfield Hosts MAAC Championship

Fairfield University will host the 2007 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship, November 18-19, at Alumni Hall. The four-team tournament field consists of two-time defending tournament champion Siena College, second-seeded Fairfield University, the three-seed, Loyola College, and, the four-seed, Iona College.

The Stags (20-10, 17-1 MAAC), who captured a share of their fourth-straight MAAC Regular Season crown, will face Loyola in Sunday's semifinal at 11 a.m. Siena and Iona will square off at 2 p.m. for Sunday's second semifinal match.

The MAAC Championship final will be held on November 19 at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPNU. Not only are conference bragging rights up for grabs, but the tournament winner will receive an automatic bid to the 2007 NCAA Volleyball Championship.

Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students and youth. FUSA and the Office of Student Activities are providing free tickets for the first 100 Fairfield students through the door for Sunday's semifinal against Loyola. If Fairfield advances to Monday's championship final, the first 250 Fairfield students will get in free. Students must show their StagCard to receive free admission.

Fairfield enters the MAAC Championship as winners of nine-straight and 19 of its last 21 matches. All 19 wins have come against conference foes.

Fairfield and the MAAC Regular Season Championship - The Stags captured a share of their fourth-straight MAAC Regular Season Championship, bringing its total to nine. The championships occurred during in 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007.

Another 20-Win Season - The Stags secured their third 20-win season in the last four years with their victory at Marist on Nov. 10. It is the ninth 20-win season in program history.

Fairfield in the MAAC Championship - Fairfield had a string of five MAAC Championships between 1997-2001. Since then the Stags have gone 19-9 in the conference postseason. Five of those losses have come in the championship final, including occurrences in each of the past three years. In 2006, Fairfield captured the regular season crown, but was edged by Siena, 3-2 (24-30, 25-30, 30-21, 30-15, 12-15) in the final match of the tournament for the second year in a row.

Home is Where the MAAC Wins Are - Fairfield has not lost a home match to a MAAC opponent since Oct. 8, 2003 when the Stags fell to Marist 3-2. Since then, Fairfield has gone 30-0 at home versus the league.

#2 Fairfield vs. #3 Loyola - The Stags went 2-0 against the Greyhounds this season. After blanking Loyola, 3-0, in Alumni Hall, Fairfield earned a 3-2 win on the road. Sophomore Katie Mann is averaging 4.62 kills and has collected 11 total blocks and hitting .471 against Loyola. As a team, Fairfield is averaging 6.2 more kills per game than the Greyhounds. The Stags are hitting .255 collectively while holding Loyola to a .147 attack percentage. Fairfield has taken the last seven meetings between the two squads and is 17-6 lifetime against Loyola.
