FAIRFIELD, Conn. - For the second time in three weeks and the third time this season, setter Barbie Thistle (Bakersfield, Calif./Bakersfield) was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Volleyball Rookie of the Week. Thistle averaged 13.57 assists, 2.19 digs and 1.57 aces while hitting .414 to help Fairfield improve to 7-0 in conference play and 10-6 on the season.
In the Stags' 3-1 victory at Siena on Oct. 7, Thistle posted her fourth double-double of the season with 53 assists and 12 digs. She also had a career-high six service aces and a career-best seven kills along with a .462 attack percentage. Thistle's success continued against Loyola as she recorded five aces, 42 assists, seven kills and five digs.
Thistle leads the conference in assists, averaging 11.90 per game, and is third in service aces with 0.56 per game and is fifth in hitting percentage with a mark of .308.
Fairfield continues its homestand this weekend when the Stags host Marist on Oct. 14 and Iona on Oct. 15 during Homecoming. Both matches are set to begin at 2 p.m. in Alumni Hall.
