
Kelly McCarthy begins her third year as
the assistant sports information director. She is responsible for
covering men’s and women’s cross country, men’s
and women’s tennis, women’s volleyball, men’s and
women’s swimming and diving, as well as the baseball program.
She also assists in the coverage of men’s and women’s
basketball.
McCarthy comes to Fairfield after spending the 2005-06 season at
Towson University. With the Tigers, she was the contact for
the women’s basketball team, as well as the nationally-ranked
women’s lacrosse team. She was also responsible for
volleyball, swimming and diving, women’s cross country and
track, and women’s tennis.
McCarthy began her sports information career as an assistant at
Marist College during the 2003-04 academic year. There she covered
the women’s basketball team during its first-ever NCAA
season. She also covered women’s soccer, softball,
women’s lacrosse, crew, women’s water polo, swimming
and diving, tennis, and track.
After Marist, she spent a year as an assistant at the University
of Pennsylvania, covering the Quakers nationally-ranked wrestling,
men’s soccer and men’s crew teams, and served as the
secondary contact for football. She also covered women’s
soccer, women’s crew, sprint football, and softball. McCarthy
also assisted with the 2005 and 2006 NCAA Men's
Lacrosse Championships and the 111th and 112th
Annual Penn Relays.
A native of Natick, Mass., McCarthy graduated summa cum laude from
St. John’s University in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science
degree in Journalism. She served as the managing editor of The
Torch, the official student newspaper, as a senior while interning
with the Women’s Sports Foundation and Newsday.
McCarthy is currently pursuing a Masters in American Studies from
Fairfield, and resides in Hamden, Conn.
